Our current health insurance system is broken. Too many Americans are unable to afford access to necessary medical care and lifesaving treatment. Premiums, deductibles and co-pays threaten the financial security of families. It is no longer a sustainable system. The uninsured and under insured are one accident or illness away from financial ruin.
Medicare has celebrated 50 years of insuring the elderly and disabled. It is a hugely popular program, but could be improved with increased benefits and eligibility opened to everyone. It is time to recognize health care is a human right and move to a system that is cost effective with everybody in and nobody out.
