Pueblo area museums are opening their doors free to the public on Saturday Nov. 14. The majority of the museums on the list are the ones to often overlooked by Pueblo tourism marketing.
These are curious places and ones that should be visited at least once. Open to the public is the former house of the Colorado State Hospital superintendent (13th and Francisco Streets, www.cmhipmuseum.org).
The only remaining firehouse built in 1881, which also has its original brass pole intact is is Pueblo Fire Department Hose Company #3 (116 Broadway Ave., www.hosecono3.com).
Along with theme of vintage Pueblo, on the list is the Steelworks Center of the West (215 Canal Street, www.steelworkscenter.org) showing off Colorado’s steel and mining past. The Pueblo Heritage Museum (201 W. B St., www.theheritagecenter.us) which shows of history of the Pueblo floods, and Pueblo’s saddle and steel making heritage.
The last must visit place on the list is the Weisbrod Aircraft Museum at the former Pueblo Army Air Base (31001 Magnuson Avenue, www.pwam.org). The base trained thousands of bomber crews including Hollywood legends Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable.
