On Saturday, February 6th, a large handful of other patrons and I grooved on the music décor of The Blue Pepper Trio at the Cock & Bull Tavern. The best way that I could describe this troupe of musicians would be to call them an alt-country-rockabilly-folk band.

A Pueblo Hootenanny

Pueblo’s inaugural contra dance nearly brought down the house January 9th with the traditional acoustic sounds of the Nimble Fingers String Band. More than 130 people from all over the state, including a few of Pueblo’s dance hall regulars, packed the City Park Pavilion to dance the night away as Pat (banjo) and Kate (fiddle) McCracken, along with Randy Muniz (guitar) and Stevey Whited (standup bass) jammed some old country favorites.

Our story begins in the late afternoon of May 2, 1982. Kurt Brecht Sr. had just gotten off a hard day of work to find his two sons, Kurt Jr. and Eric, and their two friends, Spike Cassidy and Dennis Johnson, making terrible noises. He referred to the group as “a bunch of dirty rotten imbeciles.” Thus, a punk rock quartet got its name.

On December 12, 2009 I had the good pleasure of seeing two great bands in the back of one of my favorite bars. First, I would like to come out and publically say that I am sick of “all-ages shows.” I am sick of snot-nosed kids trying to act tough, I’m sick of those damn wrist bands that rip out my arm hair, and I am sick of having to drink my beer in those stupid designated drinking areas.
