Flavor of Pueblo

The 5th Annual Flavor of Pueblo Food & Wine Show will be presented Thursday, March 18^th at the Pueblo Convention Center. From 5-7:30pm, dozens of local restaurants and vendors will showcase their wares at the extravaganza, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Pueblo County. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at door, and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce (719-542-1704), the Pueblo Convention Center (719 542-1100), and the United Way of Pueblo (719-583-4455). You must be 21 years old to attend, and the first 450 guests will receive a free goodie bag from the event's sponsors. Drink Me: Is it time for Barleywine?

Why, yes it is. Midwinter has evolved into the traditional release time of America's craft beer Barleywines. That's right, I said beer, not wine. Instead, Barleywine (or Barley Wine) is a traditional malted barley-based beverage (aka beer) first named in England. The assumption is that these brews were called Barleywine because they were so high in alcohol that they resembled wine more than the usual beers of the day.
